APAICS Demands Public Explanation For Stripping Chairmanship from Assemblymember Evan Low

WASHINGTON—Last week, California State Assemblymember Evan Low was summarily removed as chair of the Business and Professions Committee without notice or explanation.

Madalene Xuan-Trang Mielke, President and CEO of APAICS, gave the below statement:

"Assemblymember Evan Low has been a steadfast leader for equity in the California state legislature. As vice-chair of the Asian and Pacific Islander Caucus, he has exerted leadership on championing issues of importance to our community.

"This news comes as a shock to our community, and runs counter to the pledges of representation and equity by Governor Newsom and the legislature. It is even more troublesome given the lack of transparency surrounding this news, in a time when our nation is fragile from mis and dis-information from some of our elected leaders."
