APAICS Office Internship

Overview

APAICS is looking for AA & NH/PI students and young professionals to intern hybrid. Current students and recent graduates of all levels, backgrounds, and ethnicities are encouraged to apply.

Please note: Due to the hybrid nature of the internship, all interns MUST be located in the Washington metropolitan area for the entire duration of the program. 

All APAICS interns will spend the majority of their time working on content-based projects that will support our national, regional, and local programs and initiatives. Projects will stem from the various departments that APAICS has, which are listed below. Interns will also attend in-person and virtual professional development and networking events featuring various elected officials, partners, and community leaders.​

Departments

  • Communications (prepare briefings, draft newsletters, create digital/social media content, develop digital marketing strategies)

  • Development and External Affairs (support event planning, update trackers and invites, outreach to community partners)

  • Operations and Administration (prepare letters and reports, file documents, compile data on AA & NH/PI candidates and elected officials, identify community leaders and local issues of importance)

  • Programs (outreach to program participants, confirm and register attendees at events, support logistics, maintain spreadsheets)

Experience

No previous experience is necessary, but the following qualifications would definitely be an asset:

  • Knowledge and Interests

    • Understanding of issues affecting Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities

    • Passion for politics, government, and public policy

    • Interest in learning about the inner workings of nonprofit organizations

  • Flexibility

    • Ability to jump between projects from day to day

    • Willingness to assist wherever needed based on organization needs

  • Software experience

    • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

    • Google Docs, Sheets

    • Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Canva

    • Databases

  • Communications

    • Strong writing ability for multiple audiences

    • Keen proofreading and editing skills

    • Attention to detail

Time Commitment

  • Orientation Date: May 22, 2024

  • Summer 2024 Program Dates: May 28, 2024 - August 02, 2024 (Exact dates subject to change)

  • Work for a minimum of 12 weeks during the semester

  • Work at least 12-15 hours per week

Compensation

Office interns who are not here per their college credit will be paid Washington, DC minimum wage.

Location

Interns will work hybrid, depending on what the Internship Supervisor and intern agree upon.
