APAICS Congratulates Rep. Ted Lieu on Historic Election to Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus

WASHINGTON — APAICS congratulates Congressman Ted Lieu on his historic election to Vice Chair of the House Democratic Caucus. Congressman Lieu, who currently serves as Whip in the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), is the first Asian American to be elected to a House Leadership position. He was a co-chair for APAICS’ Legislative Leadership Summit in 2022 and a co-chair for APAICS’ Gala in 2019.

APAICS president and CEO Madalene Xuan-Trang Mielke release the following statement:

“Congressman Lieu is a stalwart advocate for our AA and NH/PI community, and we are thrilled that he has been elected by the House Democratic Caucus to serve in a leadership position.

“The AA and NH/PI community is the fastest growing population in the United States, with the majority of our community being immigrants or children of immigrants. As the first Asian American to serve within Leadership, we are sure that Congressman Lieu will continue his great work to uplift and champion our community’s priorities. And as one of the few naturalized citizens in Congress, Congressman Lieu brings a much needed perspective for our community and the immigrant community as a whole.

“APAICS would also like to congratulate Congressmembers Hakeem Jeffries, Katherine Clark and Pete Aguilar on their respective elections to House Leadership. It is refreshing to see a House Leadership that is reflective of our diverse country, and evidence of the growing political power of communities of color. We hope to continue seeing this representation and progress at every level within Congress.”
