WASHINGTON—The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of David Lin, who served with distinction as Treasurer of our organization from 2010 to 2018. His sudden loss is a profound one for the APAICS community, the broader Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA & NH/PI) civic sphere, and for all who knew and worked alongside him.

David Lin’s leadership, dedication, and steadfast commitment to advancing AA & NH/PI voices in public service and civic life were exemplary. At AT&T, David held a number of leadership positions in public affairs, public relations, consumer marketing, sales, product management, and finance, and served as National President of the company’s Asian American employee resource group.

“David was not only a valued member of our Board, but a dear friend and mentor to so many of us,” said Jason Chan, Chair of the APAICS Board of Directors. “He believed deeply in the power of representation and service, and his wisdom and generosity of spirit left an indelible mark on this organization and on all who had the privilege to work with him.”

As APAICS Treasurer, David brought integrity, financial stewardship, and a deep sense of mission to APAICS’s work of strengthening AA & NH/PI participation in government and leadership development. His thoughtful guidance and steady presence helped lay the foundation for APAICS’s continued growth and impact. Beyond APAICS, David served on the boards of numerous AA & NH/PI organizations, including as the first non-Nikkei National President of the Japanese American Citizens League.

“David’s contributions to APAICS—and to the AA & NH/PI community—were immeasurable,” said Madalene Mielke, President and CEO of APAICS. “He was a steady hand, a voice of encouragement, and a champion for the next generation of AA & NH/PI leaders. We will remember him for his kindness, humility, and unwavering dedication to public service.”

We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. David’s legacy, both in service to APAICS and in his lifelong commitment to empowering the AA & NH/PI community, will endure.
