Thinking about stepping into public service, but not sure where to start? The APAICS Regional Leadership Academy (RLA) is designed to help leaders like you build the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to run for office or support a campaign. Whether you’ve already run a campaign or have never worked in public service before, the RLA has something to offer everyone.

Not convinced? Here are 5 reasons why you should attend an RLA:

  1. Network with your local community.

RLA brings together current elected officials, rising leaders, and community advocates from your region, giving you the chance to build strong, local connections. You’ll meet peers who share your passion for public service and leave with a support system that lasts well beyond the training.

  1. Gain hands-on campaign experience.

RLA sessions are interactive and practical. From navigating campaign scenarios to refining and presenting your personal story and stump speech, every session is designed to give you real-world experience that you can apply to your future in public service.

  1. Get to know the ins and outs of running for office.

Whether you’re exploring a future run or are already in the process of planning your campaign, RLA walks you through the full process. Learn what it takes to file, fundraise, organize, and run directly from people who’ve done it themselves. Although Asian Americans & Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders (AA & NH/PIs) make up over 6% of the U.S. population, they only account for ~1% of elected officials nationwide—a gap we aim to close.

  1. Learn from world-class trainers.

RLA isn’t just about what you learn—it’s about who you learn from. Our expert trainers include campaign strategists, former candidates, and communications professionals who bring years of experience to the table. They’ll challenge you to think strategically, act with purpose, and prepare for both the opportunities and obstacles of leadership in public office.

  1. Become inspired to run!

Above all, RLA is about empowerment. Hearing directly from AA & NH/PI leaders who’ve run for office or worked on campaigns themselves can help you take the next steps with confidence and purpose. With over 1,400 AA & NH/PI elected officials currently in office, the momentum is growing—and your leadership could be next.
