The Hon. Margaret Abe-Koga
Member
Santa Clara County Supervisor Margaret Abe-Koga
Margaret was elected to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors in November 2024, making history as one of the first two Asian American women voted to the Board in its 175-year history. Her journey—from an American-born child of immigrant parents to county supervisor -- is one that has shaped her commitment to public service. Such experiences have fueled her desire to listen to the voices of those who have not always had one in the public arena.
She first ran for office in 2001 when she became trustee of Santa Clara County Board of Education. She was mayor of Mountain View – twice – the first Asian American woman be selected for that position. She chaired key regional transportation and environmental boards, and she served under California Governor Jerry Brown on water quality oversight. She has been a fierce advocate for transportation, affordable housing, public safety, and sustainability. She credits her daughters and their generation for giving her the dedication to fighting climate change.
Fast, clean and accessible transportation is Abe-Koga's policy passion. She serves on the boards of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) and Caltrain, working to make travel between all of them easier and more efficient for Bay Area travelers.
She's been honored as a Silicon Valley Woman of Influence, a Working Partnerships USA Champion for Change, and a California Assembly’s Woman of the Year for Assembly District 22.
