Programs Associate

The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) is seeking a dynamic young professional to serve on its Programs team. The qualified candidate will be responsible for supporting the planning and implementation of APAICS Programs, which are related to advancing the political pipeline and leadership of the Asian American & Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander community. The Program Associate reports to the Vice President of Programs and Community Engagement. This full-time opportunity is located in Washington, D.C.

 

Current APAICS Programs Include:

  • Congressional Fellowship: 9 month paid opportunities for graduates/post-graduates on Capitol Hill

  • Congressional Internship: internship program for undergraduates on Capitol Hill

  • Women’s Collective: Initiatives to empower AANHPI women in public service including an annual Summit

  • Regional Leadership Academy: multi-day trainings for elected officials, first time candidates & community leaders

  • National Leadership Academy: annual multi-day training for elected officials, first time candidates & community leaders

  • Legislative Leadership Academy: professional development program for mid-career legislative staffers seeking to advance into senior management roles on Capitol Hill

  • Youth Leadership Academy: week-long immersive experience for high school students to learn about public service, policy-making, and the legislative process

  • Kakehashi:  a cultural exchange program between the US and Japan for AAPI students

 

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning, development, and implementation of APAICS programs

  • Coordinate logistics for events, workshops, and leadership training programs including virtual and in-person

  • Assist with program outreach including recruitment of participants and candidates through national, regional, and local community outreach

  • Collaborate with communications team on traditional and social media strategy to promote programs

  • Coordinate a growing network of APAICS program alumni

  • Coordinate with the Chief Administrative Officer on budget maintenance and financial tracking 

  • Drafting grant reports and requests pertaining to programs 

  • Assist with program assessment, evaluation, and data collection

  • Administrative responsibilities such as maintaining expense requests, travel booking, catering, and event space reservations  

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Strong organizational, logistical, and time management skills 

  • Ability to multitask, respond quickly, and problem-solve under pressure

  • Sense of humor with a high degree of professionnalism

 

Additional Skills (preferred)

  • Knowledge of Asian American & Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander communities across the country

  • Experience with event planning and scheduling

  • Knowledge of media strategy, marketing, and promotion

  • Previous campaign and/or congressional experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

 

Compensation

  • Salary starts at $56,000 and commensurate with experience. Additional benefits include healthcare premium reimbursement, 21 days of vacation and access to 401(k) plan after 90 days of employment, all federal holidays off, Christmas through New Year’s off, and transit benefits.

  • This full-time opportunity is located in Washington, D.C.

 

Eligibility Requirements
