Priya is a policy professional who is passionate about using grassroots policy to create social change. She graduated from the University of Florida with degrees in political science and biology as well as a minor in health disparities. Priya's experiences range from leading civic engagement and social justice education initiatives to working in hospitals. She believes that her multidisciplinary perspective has been key in preparing her to tackle the complex systems that perpetuate inequity.
Prior to becoming an APAICS fellow, Priya was a Policy Analyst with Florida's Refugee Services Agency. Her work centered on using federal policies and funding to help over one hundred thousand eligible clients from dozens of different cultures achieve economic self-sufficiency. As the agency's Youth Program Subject Matter Expert, she facilitated state-wide collaboration between six community-based resettlement programs to improve youth engagement techniques. She is excited to continue working to ensure that policies and civic institutions empower those they serve.
