EXTERNAL AFFAIRS MANAGER

The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) is seeking a dynamic professional to serve as an External Affairs Manager. The qualified candidate will be responsible for engaging and executing APAICS projects and partnerships with stakeholders.  

 

The External Affairs Manager reports directly to the President and CEO. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develop and manager philanthropic partnerships

  • Manage a portfolio of donors by creating and executing annual donor plans in conjunction with the President & CEO

  • Design, implement and evaluate targeted events for third party partners supporters and prospects

  • Manage and implement special donor projects that require coordination with external partners

  • Support the effective stewardship of current donors by assisting in preparation for external meetings. Perform background research on prospective individuals and organizational donors and prepare briefs for team and organizational leadership

  • Create and manage strong development systems that include researching, writing and submitting professional, compelling grant proposals, reports, and solicitations, as well as processing and acknowledging all gifts, grants, and contributions in a timely fashion

  • Assist in maintaining the organization’s constituent relationship management database to keep data accurate and up to date. Analyze donor data within the database by creating and running reports and dashboards

  • Assist in the operational management of APAICS Board of Directors meetings as necessary

  • Implement APAICS Communications and Digital Marketing Strategy by develop key messages and a comprehensive strategy to elevate APAICS’ brand across its social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) and ensure that critical messages reach target audiences by identifying and capturing compelling stories, news, events, videos, and images; creating and posting engaging content daily on social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram); measuring the effectiveness of this content; and leading the drive to deeper engagement that will elevate APAICS brand

  • Drive the creation and distribution of inspiring communications across a variety of media (written, photography, video, etc.)

  • Complete other administrative duties as necessary. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree

  • Strong project management skill, including managing projects with many components

  • Outstanding organizational skills with a strong emphasis in attention to detail

  • 3-5 years experience in fundraising, business development, communications, or marketing fields.

  • Ability to build relationships across a number of stakeholder groups 

  • Knowledge of and experience with a database platform preferred. Previous experience with a EveryAction or NGPVAN database platform a plus

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher), Canva and Google Suite

 

ANALYTICAL & INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment with a proven ability to juggle multiple deadlines and tasks as well as troubleshoot when projects shift unexpectedly

  • Ability to work with individuals across different political ideologies

  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability of work product

  • High comfort level communicating with external audiences with strong interpersonal communication skills

  • Effective project manager who enjoys spreadsheets, lists, and coordinating to get things just right

  • A healthy measure of the character traits we value: high level of self-awareness, cultural competence, and emotional intelligence, and a sense of humor

 

COMPENSATION

  • Salary is $70,000 with healthcare premium reimbursement, 21 days of vacation and access to 401(k) plan after 90 days of employment

  • This full-time opportunity is located in Washington, D.C.
