EVENTS MANAGER

The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) is seeking a dynamic professional to serve as its Events Manager. The qualified candidate will be responsible for supporting the planning and implementation of APAICS events to advance APAICS’ mission of advancing the political pipeline and leadership of the Asian Pacific American community. 

 

The External Affairs Manager reports directly to the President and CEO. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Conducts short- and long-term planning and management for events;

  • Manages the budget to create professionally branded events;

  • Evaluates each piece of communication for events to ensure all stakeholders are informed and needs met;

  • Assembles creative and innovative event materials based on internal capabilities or outsources to qualified vendors;

  • Trains, supervises, and works with event staff, to solicit and book banquet and catering functions, as well as the planning, merchandising, and execution of the functions;

  • Administers all phases of events, including but not limited to planning, servicing, and administrative procedures;

  • Trains staff and volunteers to reflect APAICS service standards and procedures;

  • Manage logistics for all events for APAICS staff, including hotel bookings, venue reservations, car rentals, travel reservations, catering, A/V rentals, and coordinating material distribution; and

  • Complete other administrative duties as necessary.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/ SKILLS: 

  • Strong project management skill, including managing projects with multiple components;

  • Outstanding organizational skills with a strong emphasis in attention to detail;

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds;

  • Service oriented style with professional presentations skills;

  • High energy;

  • Motivational leader;

  • Effective in providing exceptional customer service;

  • Clear concise written and verbal communication skills;

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and Google Suite.

ANALYTICAL & INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, high-energy environment with a proven ability to juggle multiple deadlines and tasks, as well as troubleshoot when projects shift unexpectedly;

  • Ability to work with individuals across different political ideologies;

  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability of work product;

  • High comfort level communicating with external audiences with strong interpersonal communication skills;

  • Effective project manager who can effectively plan via spreadsheets and lists, and can coordinate to get things just right; and

  • A healthy measure of the character traits we value: high level of self-awareness, cultural competence, emotional intelligence, and a sense of humor.

COMPENSATION

  • Salary is $55,000 with healthcare premium reimbursement, 21 days of vacation and access to 401(k) plan after 90 days of employment.

  • This full-time opportunity is located in Washington, D.C. with required travel.
