In his role as Group Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer of TMCC, Ron Chu oversees all corporate accounting, financial reporting and corporate taxation for Toyota Motor Credit Corporation (aka Toyota Financial Services) and its affiliated entities. As principal accounting officer Chu is responsible for the Company’s quarterly and annual Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) filings, in accordance with TMCC’s status as a public registrant for its debt issuance in the US market.
Chu joined TMCC in March 2002 as national manager of tax. In 2007, he was promoted to corporate manager of tax, and in June 2010, was named vice president, accounting and tax. Chu was promoted to group vice president &chief accounting officer in January 2017. Chu was the executive sponsor of Toyota Asia American in Alliance, which supports Toyota’s business objectives, provides development opportunities for members and serves the community.
Prior to joining TMCC, Chu served as tax director at Asia Global Crossing. Before that, he was senior manager at KPMG’s Los Angeles office.
Chu is a certified public accountant (CPA) licensed in California, a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Tax Executive Institute (TEI).
After receiving his Bachelor of Arts from East China Normal University, Shanghai, China, and a post-baccalaureate certificate in accounting from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon, Chu earned a master’s degree in taxation from Portland State University, and a doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Bonn in Bonn, Germany.
