Digital Communication Specialist


The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) is seeking an experienced dynamic Digital Communications Specialist to assist in social media strategy and manage the day-to-day maintenance of APAICS’ social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn); develop new content for APAICS’ website including photos and videos; provide general communications support; and support communication efforts of APAICS’ programs internally and externally.


The Digital Communications Specialist reports directly to the President and CEO. 




Digital Content (social media & website)

  • Create and manage timelines/editorial calendar for APAICS’ social media and website content.

  • Manage APAICS’ social media profiles including making status updates, managing follower engagement, monitoring, and responding to comments.

  • Identify and develop new content for APAICS’ website; create graphics; assist with updating and maintaining APAICS’ current website content.

  • Manage email newsletters, list management and marketing campaigns.

Video and audio production:

  • Work closely with APAICS staff, develop story ideas, and write scripts to promote marketing APAICS programs and event.

  • Operate video equipment including camera, audio, and lighting.

  • Manage the editing of video and final production including captioning and other accessibility requirements.

  • Produce podcasts.



  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or related field.

  • 2-4 years of experience in a similar position. Recent college graduates with exceptional qualifications will be considered.

  • Exceptional writing ability with demonstrated experience translating complicated topics into clear and compelling text.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, HTML, Wix, Squarespace, and WordPress content management systems.

  • Video scripting, filming, editing experience.

  • Basic graphic design skills, including proficiency in Adobe design software.

  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting the AA NH/PI community.

  • A healthy measure of the character traits we value: high level of self-awareness, cultural competence, emotional intelligence, and a sense of humor.





  • Salary is $55,000 - $65,000 with healthcare premium reimbursement, 21 days of vacation and access to 401(k) plan after 90 days of employment, all federal holidays off, and Christmas through New Year’s off, and transit benefits.

  • This full-time exempt opportunity located in Washington, D.C.
