Biography
Jay Chen is the President of the Board of Education for Hacienda-La Puente Unified, and was re-elected to the board in November of 2011 with the top vote. He is proud to serve the same district he graduated from in 1996. He attended Mesa Robles and Wilson High School, and was awarded a Naval ROTC scholarship to attend Harvard University. He is currently an officer in the Naval Reserve. Previously a management consultant, he now runs his own real estate business and serves as President of La Puente Valley ROP. Jay is fluent in Spanish and Mandarin.
Jay is committed to helping students succeed in Hacienda-La Puente. He personally runs a free college application workshop that has helped hundreds of families in the district and he also created free SAT classes for low-income students. As President of La Puente Valley Regional Occupational Program, he helped increase vocational classes in Hacienda-La Puente by 20% over the last two years. Thanks to fiscal conservatism, HLPUSD was one of the few districts in the region that did not layoff or furlough teaching staff. He is honored to have the opportunity to continue to serve his community.
