Legislative Record and Priorities
Delegate Susan Lee has introduced and sponsored bills to fight identity theft, internet fraud, counterfeiting, cyber-terrorism, cyber stalking, Spam, online child pornography, and other internet related crimes. Bills introduced by her and passed by the General Assembly include HB 194, Crimes-Theft Use of Interactive Computer Service; HB 598, Criminal Law - Identity Fraud; HB 202, Crimes-Counterfeiting United States Currency; HB 208, the Maryland Personal Information Protection Act; and HB 360, the Maryland Mortgage Fraud Protection Act. Delegate Lee also sponsored the Electronics Communication Safety Act of 2010, a pivotal act prohibiting the use of hand-held cell phones while driving for anyone 18 years and older.
Delegate Lee is very active in introducing and passing bills to protect the environment. Some notable bills that she has sponsored and passed are the Healthy Air Act, Bay Restoration Fund, Energy Efficiency Standards, the Agricultural Stewardship Act, Maryland Strategic Energy Investment Program, and the Alternative Energy Tax Incentive of 2009.
Delegate Lee has also worked hard to sponsor and support legislation to ensure a quality education for all children, improve our public school system through modernization and reduction in class sizes, bring affordable and quality health care to Marylanders, improve gun control, increase procurement opportunities for women and minority owned small businesses, and fight domestic violence, senior and child abuse, hate crimes and drunk driving.
Biography
Delegate Lee was born in San Antonio, Texas. Her parents, a WWII U.S. Navy veteran and a retired Washington Post artist, moved their family to Montgomery County over 40 years ago. A proud product of Montgomery County public schools, Delegate Lee attended Leland Jr. High School and Herbert Hoover Jr. High School and graduated from Winston Churchill High School in Potomac, Maryland. She also received a B.A. from the University of Maryland and a J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law.
Professional, Civic, and Political Activities
Delegate Lee has been involved in numerous professional, civic, and political organizations for over 25 years. Her service in community organizations have included Co-Chair of the Multicultural Community Partnership of the NAACP (Montgomery County Branch), Member of the Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board, Co-founder and former Board Member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus Institute (now Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies), and current Board Member of Progressive Maryland. Delegate Lee is also a former President of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association of the Greater Washington Area. She is also a Member in the Organization of Chinese Americans, Chinese American Citizens Alliance, and the League of Korean Americans of Maryland.
Active in politics, Delegate Lee was the Co-founder and first Chair of the Coalition of Asian Pacific American Democrats of Maryland (CAPAD-MD). She also served as a Kerry PLEO Delegate to the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston, a Member of the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee, a Member of the Democratic Forum of Montgomery County, and an At Large Gore Delegate to the 2000 Democratic National Convention. She was also Coordinator of Asian Pacific Americans for Terry Lierman for Congress (2000), Coordinator of Asian Pacific Americans for Ralph Neas for Congress (1998), and also a Member of the Asian Pacific American Advisory Committee to Re-elect Governor Parris Glendening and Lt. Governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend (1998). In 1993, Delegate Lee was the Asian Pacific American Community Volunteer Coordinator for the Clinton/Gore Presidential Inaugural Committee. She is a current Member of District 16 Democratic Club, Coalition of Asian Pacific American Democrats of Maryland, Hispanic Democratic Club of Montgomery County, and Montgomery County African American Democratic Club, and Women's Suburban Democratic Club.

Delegate Lee has received numerous awards for her leadership and community service, which include the Progressive Leader Award, Progressive Maryland; Merit Award, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD); Out for Justice Award, Free State Justice (now Equality Maryland), Appreciation Award, United States Secret Service; Agis Center for Arts and Humanities Appreciation Award; Senior Advocate Award, Korean American Senior Citizens Association (KASCA); LOKA-MD Outstanding Community Service Award; LOKA-USA Public Service Award; Governor's Citation for Noteworthy Community Service; Community Service Award, Global Mission Church; KASCA Community Service Award.
