APAICS Welcomes New Program Director Laila Mohib

 

Washington DC - The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) is pleased to announce Laila Mohib as the organization’s new Program Director. APAICS is a national non-partisan, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting Asian Pacific American participation and representation at all levels of the political process, from community service to elected office.

Tri-Caucus Leaders Join APAICS in Welcoming New Class of Summer Interns

Washington, D.C. - On June 13, 2011, the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) hosted a reception with the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) welcoming to Washington DC the approximately 100 interns hosted by the three organizations this summer. In attendance were Rep. Judy Chu (CA-32), chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC), Rep. Madeleine Bordallo (GU), vice chair of CAPAC, Rep. Mike Honda (CA-15), chair emeritus of CAPAC, Rep. Charlie Gonzalez (TX-20), chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Rep. Donald Payne (NJ-10), chair of CBCF, and Rep. Grace Napolitano (CA-38).

Washington, DC - Today, Gloria Chan, the President and CEO of the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS), issued the following statement regarding the passing of Matt Fong, former treasurer of California, who passed away yesterday after a battle with skin cancer.  

APAICS Celebrated 17 Years of Asian American and Pacific Islander Community Empowerment

Washington DC - On May 4, 2011, the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) hosted its 17th Annual Gala Awards Dinner in the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center, which was the culmination of a day-long leadership symposium on May 3.

With nearly 600 attendees, APAICS celebrated 17 years of leadership in the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community by honoring three exceptional leaders: U.S. Rep. Mike Honda, Deepa Iyer of South Asian Americans Leading Together, and Comcast. The star studded audience included the celebrity host, Daniel Dae Kim of Hawaii Five-0, Actress Tamlyn Tomita, Actor Joel De La Fuente, and MSNBC Dayside Anchor Richard Lui. 

APAICS to Host First Annual Leadership Symposium and 17th Annual Gala Awards Dinner

Washington, DC - The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) is pleased to announce the First Annual Leadership Symposium entitled AAPIs on the Rise: Activating our Power to be held on May 3, 2011, at The Sphinx Club at Franklin Square at 1315 K Street NW, DC. This event is free and open to the public. APAICS has hosted conferences in the past, and this symposium honors that history by establishing the symposium as an annual event to be held in conjunction with our annual awards gala each year.

“Hawaii Five-0” Star Daniel Dae Kim to Host APAICS Gala Awards Dinner

Washington, D.C. - The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) is pleased to announce that Daniel Dae Kim of CBS’s hit series “Hawaii Five-0” will host APAICS’s 17th Annual Gala Awards Dinner. The event will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center located at 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. The event entitled, Celebrating Our Legacy of Leadership: Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in Public Service will start with a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m.

APAICS to Co-Host Capital Hearts for Japan Fundraiser to Support Relief in Japan

Washington, D.C. – The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) joins partner organizations to co-host theCapital Hearts for Japan – Earthquake Relief Fundraiser.  The event will take place on Saturday, March 26th from 6-10pm at The Park on Fourteenth (920 14th St NW). 100% of proceeds will go to Save the Children efforts in Japan.

APAICS Announces Gloria Chan as New President & CEO

Washington, D.C.—The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) hosted a reception on Thursday, February 10^th, in the Rayburn House Office Building to welcome Members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) to the 112^th Congress and congratulate Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-CA) on her new role as CAPAC Chair. The event was made possible through the generous support of the Asian Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund, CBS, Clear Channel, Google, Oscar T. Ramirez, National Association of Broadcasters, RIM, Time Warner Cable, and OCA.
