APAICS Welcomes New Program Director Laila Mohib

Washington DC - The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) is pleased to announce Laila Mohib as the organization’s new Program Director. APAICS is a national non-partisan, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting Asian Pacific American participation and representation at all levels of the political process, from community service to elected office.

 

Ms. Mohib joins APAICS as it enters an exciting stage of transition while building upon its rich legacy and growth over the past 17 years. A core component of APAICS is its leadership programs, including the Leadership Academy for elected officials, Summer Internship Program, Fellowship Program, and Congressional Mentorship Program. Ms. Mohib will be overseeing the development of all programs, including strengthening alumni enrichment activities.

Not only does she bring a decade of experience in political pipeline development, she also possesses the brilliance and positive energy that drives those around her.”

Over the past ten years, Laila has worked with elected officials, candidates, and organizations to develop skills in training, messaging, polling and outreach.

Most recently, Laila worked with the Communication Workers of America’s campaign supporting the proposed 39 billion dollar acquisition of T-Mobile USA by AT&T. Laila spent four years with EMILY’s List as the Political Coordinator for Campaign Services and Trainings, and as the Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff. She also worked in the legislative office of Congressman Jim Davis, the candidate recruitment department of Progressive Majority, the Democratic National Committee’s Office of Independent Expenditures, and interned with the Public Affairs department of MTV and the White House Office of Women’s Initiatives and Outreach.

Laila received her undergraduate degree in Social Anthropology and Art History from Sarah Lawrence College. She has studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts and the Aegean Center for Fine Arts and has a Masters in Arts in Art History, Connoisseurship and the History of the Art Market from Christie’s Education.

Founded in 1994 by former Secretary Norman Y. Mineta, APAICS serves as a resource to Congress and the general public on issues related to the political advancement of Asian Pacific Americans.
