APAICS Statement on the Passing of Matt Fong, Former California State Treasurer

Washington, DC - Today, Gloria Chan, the President and CEO of the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS), issued the following statement regarding the passing of Matt Fong, former treasurer of California, who passed away yesterday after a battle with skin cancer.  

“On behalf of the board and staff members of APAICS, I send our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Matt Fong. Fong was a lifelong public servant, and active in the Asian Pacific American community.  He was a supporter of APAICS, speaking at our leadership trainings for elected officials and attending our annual events.  The community is indebted to his service, and our thoughts and prayers go to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

 The Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies (APAICS) is a national non-partisan, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting Asian Pacific American participation and representation at all levels of the political process, from community service to elected office. Founded in 1994 by former Secretary Norman Y. Mineta, APAICS serves as a resource to Congress and the general public on issues related to the political advancement of Asian Pacific Americans.
