The National Leadership Academy gives Asian Pacific American leaders the tools to successfully reach their goals, whether they are to be elected to a higher political office or coalition building. Academy alumni include Representative Colleen Hanabusa (D-Hawaii) and Hawaii State Representative and APAICS Board of Directors Member Scott Nishimoto.
This year, the Academy will be held from May 9th and 10th at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C. on 1919 Connecticut Ave NW. The Academy will be split into two separate tracks for local elected officials (Day 1) and community activists (Day 2). More information is provided below:
Day 1- Academy for AAPI Elected Officials
- What: A comprehensive training on what it takes to seek higher political office, including ethics and building networks
- When: Thursday, May 9th at 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
- Where: The Washington Hilton, Washington D.C.
- Who’s Eligible: Asian Pacific Americans current or former locals and statewide elected officials who are keenly interested in seeking higher political office. Attendees will receive one ticket to the 19th Annual APAICS Gala Awards Dinner and one night hotel (May 8) at the Washington Hilton.
Day 2- Academy for AAPI Community Leaders
- What: A comprehensive training on building online coalitions, digital outreach, and media
- When: Friday, May 10th from 9 a.m.-6 p.m.
- Where: The Washington Hilton, Washington, D.C.
- Who’s Eligible: Asian Pacific Americans interested in leadership, communication, and coalition building. Attendees will receive one ticket to the 19th Annual APAICS Gala Awards Dinner and a Southwest Airlines ticket voucher if attending from out of the
