Biography
Ken Chew was elected to the Moraga Town Council in November 2006, and re-elected to a second term in November 2010. He served as the Mayor of the Town of Moraga in 2010. Ken represents the Town of Moraga at the League of California Cities East Bay Division. He is a member of the Saint Mary's College Subcommittee, the Moraga Country Club Negotiating Team, and the Moraga Orinda Fire District (MOFD) Fire Tax Allocation Subcommittee.
Ken serves as the council liaison to the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD), the Moraga Orinda Fire District (MOFD), and as the alternate liaison to the Acalanes Union High School District (AUHSD).
Ken was appointed by the Contra Costa County Mayors' Conference in 2007 to serve on the County Hazardous Materials Commission, and was appointed by the President of the League of California Cities in 2008 to serve on the statewide Transportation, Communication, and Public Works Policy Committee.
Prior to his election to the Town Council, Ken was appointed to the Town of Moraga Planning Commission in February 2003, and then reappointed to serve two more terms in February 2004 and February 2006. Ken is an active citizen of Moraga and its greater community. He has served on the Acalanes Union High School District's (AUHSD) Measure B Citizen's Oversight Committee from 2004 to 2008, and on the Board of Directors of the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Contra Costa (CAPC) from 2004 to 2007.
Ken is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison with a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering. He is also a graduate of the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program at the Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government. Ken is a Registered Civil Engineer (P.E.) with a Master's Certificate in Project Management from the George Washington University.
Ken and his family - wife Aly and sons Justin and Oliver - have lived in Moraga since 2001, and he is an avid enthusiast of his children's competitive soccer activities.
