Biography

Re-elected to the City Council in April 2008, Council Member Joaquin Lim has served on the Walnut City Council since November 7, 1995, and has officiated four terms as Mayor. A veteran of the United States Army and a resident of Walnut since 1988, Joaquin takes an active interest in maintaining the quality of life in Walnut. His years of community involvement were recognized by many. He is featured on the front cover of a book entitled "Distinguished Asian American Political and Governmental Leaders". ISBN 1-57356-325-0

Joaquin is an adjunct professor and the Executive Director of the California Institute of Public Administration. Joaquin previously served as an adjunct faculty member at California State University, Los Angeles and California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He holds an M.A. and a B.A. degree in economics from San Francisco State University.

Both of his daughters, Elaine and Janice, attended public schools in Walnut. Elaine went on to the University of California at Berkeley where she obtained a B.S. degree in business administration. She now works for the corporate office of Pacific Gas & Electric Company in San Francisco. Janice attended Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut and she currently works for Ingram Micro.

Besides his busy work schedule, Joaquin maintains active memberships in several professional, business, and philanthropic organizations, frequently serving in leadership and administrative roles. When Joaquin manages to find free time, he can be found pursuing his hobbies, which include net-surfing, golfing, traveling, and enjoying music of all types. Despite his demanding schedule, Joaquin always manages to have time for a warm smile and a friendly greeting!
